A Decent Proposal

My origin story on chasing bagels in the Midwest begins with my husband Matt. The Moth put my proposing to Matt story on the radio and their podcast last week.

I got a lot of texts from friends last week telling me they heard my proposal story on the radio. Since one chapter in my book is called ‘My Sourdough Goy’, sharing this proposal story feels bagel quest adjacent to me. I consider this story proof that you can do something bold in the most awkward way possible, and live to tell about it.

I drove through a blizzard to buy Matt an engagement leather jacket in 1996. I posed with it 25 years later, a little worse for wear but still a good jacket.
