I lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan from when I was 6 (in 1948) until I went to college. Sometime around 1948-50, bagels & the New York Times became available inAnn Arbor, but only on Sundays at the Blue Front, a small store near campus. Bagel bakeries existed in Detroit and were the source of our Sunday bagels.
Any chance you are the same Judy who worked at WCADV in the 1990s? Did the Blue Front sell bagels back then? I lived near the Blue Front from 1991-1996 and they most definity were not selling bagels then.
Thanks for the suggestion Paul. I did go to Asa’s a few months ago. I am finally getting my substack organized and will share my findings soon. I did give the exterior crispness of Asa’s bagels full marks.

I’m not that Judy. I can’t remember when our Sunday trip to the Blue Front routine ended. Sorry.
You may want to try Asa’s in Minneapolis, they are only open Thursday-Sunday and frequently sell out, so plan ahead.
